Position Description

Background Information
 
The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) is seeking engineers for its headquarters location in Rockville, MD and regional sites in: King of Prussia, PA; Atlanta, GA; Lisle, IL; and, Arlington, TX.

Description of Opportunity
 
Engineering opportunities at the NRC include nuclear, mechanical, structural, fire protection, electrical, and geotechnical and include positions related to:  inspections (resident, fuel facility, construction) project management, digital instrumentation and controls, probabilistic risk assessment, materials and corrosion and additional engineering fields and other related opportunities.
 
NRC engineers protect the public health and safety and the environment by developing regulations and guidance for applicants and licensees to use nuclear materials, operate nuclear facilities or to conduct decommissioning that permits license termination.  NRC engineers also oversee and inspect licensee operations and facilities to ensure compliance with safety and security requirements; evaluate operational experience at licensed facilities or involving licensed activities; conduct research; and hold hearings to address the concerns of persons affected by agency decisions. 

Required Experience and Education 
 
Engineering positions range from entry to experienced level.  At the entry and experienced levels you must have a Bachelor’s degree or higher which shows a good knowledge of the theory, principles, and practices in an engineering field of study related to the position for which you are applying.  At the experienced level you must also have a minimum of three years experience that specifically relates to the engineering background required, as delineated in the NRC job announcement, which will also delineate any substitution of allowable engineering experience for educational requirements.  Specialized experience is defined as work experience applying to any of the professional engineering disciplines listed below:
