Job Description

The Lead Administrator of Student Support supports the high school's executive administrative team with aligning student support processes across the two largest campuses, i.e. Minnie Howard and King Street, as well as overseeing special education compliance processes. The lead administrator supports academy teams with the alignment and implementation of MTSS frameworks. The candidate collaborates with the executive principal, division leadership, and building administrators to ensure cross-campus compliance with division, state, and federal guidelines pertaining to student support processes, i.e. student support and special education. The lead administrator of student support analyzes data; observes trends; conducts school-wide programmatic audits; and performs needs assessments to help identify school-wide initiatives for improvement. The position makes recommendations for resources and services that support both the general education program, as well as students with disabilities.

This job reports to the executive principal.

Qualifications

Education: Master's degree in a job related area


Certificates & Licenses: A valid Virginia Department of Education license, which must include a PreK-12 Administration and Supervision endorsement or eligibility to obtain a license with the required endorsement within ninety (90) days of the initial hire date, is required.


Experience: At least five years of grades 9-12 public school leadership experience

Additional Qualifications:

  • Experience leading a large secondary school in a socio-economically and culturally diverse environment
  • Knowledgeable of special education compliance processes and demonstrated leadership that results in student achievement; knowledgeable of and familiarity with special education law, state and federal compliance
  • Demonstrated expertise reviewing and providing feedback to special education staff and parents related to special education services or processes; knowledge of special education requirements related to parental consent, service provision, discipline and progress monitoring in compliance with local, state and federal laws
  • Proven track record of leading, developing, and implementing educational programing, including professional development in evidence based best-practices for general and special education student populations that result in student achievement
  • Experience leading school-wide MTSS implementation, with evidence in supporting an increase in staff capacity to meet the needs of students; analyzing and disaggregating data to develop supports and interventions for students
  • Ability to successfully communicate and collaborate with district and city personnel, i.e. Office of Specialized Instruction, Student Services, Teaching Learning and Leadership, Safety and Security, and Accountability/School Improvement
  • Demonstrated leadership and supervisory experience in working effectively with students, teachers, administrators, families, and community members from diverse and multicultural environments
  • Demonstrated record for implementing programs and/or initiatives that result in all students, regardless of race, ethnicity, and background, flourishing and achieving
  • Ability to manage multiple time sensitive tasks, as well as communicating action-items in a fast paced, high-need environment in a timely manner

Essential Functions

  • Develops a MTSS framework that's implemented across the student support teams in the Academies at Alexandria City; ensures an effective MTSS structure is implemented across the two large campuses, i.e. Minnie Howard and King Street, and provides support to administrators in implementing MTSS with fidelity
  • Co-monitors the effectiveness of change ideas related to the Academies at Alexandria City and supports the student support teams with school-based interventions; co-leads the school-wide MTSS committee as the team makes determinations for access of external resources
  • Reinforces the vision, mission, and priorities of ACPS and the high school; and ensures that all departments, including non-academic departments, such as, special education, IA, and long-term EL, are aligned with the school's vision and mission
  • Collaborates with the high school's executive principal and executive administrative team to ensure all students have access to a rigorous, engaging, authentic, and a personalized learning environment
  • Participates in a variety of high-level administrative meetings for the purpose of strategic planning and implementation of the Academies at Alexandria City
  • Provides recommendations to the executive principal regarding resource expenditures and staffing allocation necessary to support student support efforts
  • Ensures the school's student support structures and responses to student behavior across the high school's two largest campuses, i.e. Minnie Howard and King Street are implemented in alignment with ACPS strategic plan and student code of conduct
  • Facilitates effective problem solving and project management processes that includes ongoing collaboration with other ACHS and central office based staff to ensure that students' IEPs (along with student services and accommodations) are in compliance with federal and state law
  • Responds to data inquiries (if requested by school administration, central office, and other community agencies) for information and/or direction concerning student support processes and special education departments; works with the state and central office before, during and after state audits
  • Oversees areas critical to the efficient running of a school day including daily operations, inter-campus transportation, and supervision of administrators, operational, instructional, and support staff
  • Performs other related duties, as assigned, to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the high school

  • Tuberculosis Skin Test.

Public Health Compliance

  • Must follow safety and health protocols.
