HJF is seeking a highly motivated Health Service Researcher to support the Clinical Affairs section of the Extremity Trauma and Amputation Center of Excellence (EACE) within the Defense Health Agency. HJF provides scientific, technical, and programmatic support services to the EACE. The incumbent will conduct health service research using medical records data sets and other large medical/health data sets, perform data analyses, evaluate, research results, and writes scientific reports or papers for presentation or publication. This position applies for extramural funding in health service research and provides advice and consultation in health service research


The EACE leads the advancement of extremity trauma related discovery and clinical practice to optimize outcomes of service members, veterans, and beneficiaries while meeting the needs of the Combatant Commands and the Military Health System. The EACE is committed to ensuring a better future for those with extremity trauma. Established by the 2009 National Defense Authorization Act, the EACE is established jointly between the Department of Defense and the Department of Veterans Affairs. Originally established to operate with the U.S. Army as its lead component, in October 2022 the EACE aligned to the Defense Health Agency in the Research & Engineering Directorate with the other Congressionally established Centers of Excellence.

The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing military medicine. We serve military, medical, academic and government clients by administering, managing, and supporting preeminent scientific programs that benefit members of the armed forces and civilians alike. Since its founding in 1983, HJF has served as a vital link between the military medical community and its federal and private partners. HJF's support and administrative capabilities allow military medical researchers and clinicians to maintain their scientific focus and accomplish their research goals.

Responsibilities
    Performs literature review and identifies emerging topics and gaps in health service research to improve outcomes of individuals with severe extremity trauma.
  • Develops new research projects in health service using EACE resources to investigate and evaluate important health service issues related to polytrauma and amputation which will help identify more efficient and effective health services.
  • Provides expertise in health service research for various research projects and gives consultation in study design, data analysis, and results interpretation related to health service research.
  • Evaluates scientific literature to determine quality and validity of clinical recommendations.
  • Conducts data analysis, evaluates research results, and writes scientific reports for presentation and publication.
  • Participates in systematic reviews.
  • Assists in collaboration with researchers in other programs or institutions.
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.
Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Doctoral Degree in Health Service, Health Economics, or related field
  • Minimum of 3-5 years experience required

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Advanced knowledge in translating health service concepts and medical research into clinical practice.
  • Experience in evaluating quality of research studies.
  • Experience in health service research including using large medical records data.
  • Experience in using statistical software particularly SAS.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience in obtaining extramural grants is a plus.
  • Experience in meta data analysis a plus.

Physical Capabilities

  • Lifting: Requires lifting materials up to 10 lbs.
  • Ability to stand or sit at a computer for prolonged periods

Work Environment

  • This position will take place primarily in an office setting.

Security Requirements: U.S. Citizenship Required; Ability to obtain and maintain a T1/Public Trust background check.

Some positions or sites may require that the incumbent be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Proof of vaccination may be required.
