Job Summary

Loudoun County is seeking an attorney who will primarily advise and represent the Department of Family Services in child protective services and foster care cases, adult protective services cases, and other matters. While this position is classified as a Senior Assistant County Attorney, it may be filled at a lower Assistant County Attorney position if the successful candidate does not meet the requirements of a Senior Assistant.

Principle duties include:

  • Advising county departments, agencies and officials
  • Preparing legal documents
  • Representing the Department of Family Services in administrative hearings and in Juvenile & Domestic Relations District Court, Circuit Court and appellate court proceedings.
The successful candidate must be able to work independently, prioritize his/her workload, manage multiple cases in a timely and efficient manner, work well with a team, and provide reliable legal advice. Excellent written and verbal communication skills required.

Assistant County Attorney salary range: $79,911.85-$139,845.75
Senior Assistant County Attorney salary range: $91,580.04-$169,423.06

Hiring salary commensurate with experience at either level.
Minimum Qualifications

A Senior Assistant County Attorney position requires education and experience equivalent to a Juris Doctorate from an accredited Law School (or equivalent as state law provides); membership in the Virginia State Bar (in good standing); at least three (3) years of experience as a licensed practicing attorney, including at least two (2) years of experience in local government or a specific relevant practice area.

An Assistant County Attorney position requires education and experience equivalent to a Juris Doctorate from an accredited Law School (or equivalent as state law provides); membership in the Virginia State Bar (in good standing).

Family law or Juvenile & Domestic Relations District Court experience preferred.
