Carnegie Mellon University's work is at the heart of vital, forward-looking international and domestic policy questions being decided in Washington, D.C. The Carnegie Mellon Institute for Strategy and Technology (CMIST) is the university's home for the teaching of Political Science and International Relations. The person who assumes this important position will run and support the teaching, convening, and other activities at CMIST's picturesque Capitol Hill-located Washington Center.
With both an academic program and a think-tank element, CMIST is a university-wide institute devoted to the wise development, use, and governance of new and emerging technologies (such as artificial intelligence, robotics, biotechnology, and quantum computing) that are changing the national and international security landscape. CMIST ties the university's strengths in computer science and engineering together with its distinctive tradition of collaborative, cross-university, cross-disciplinary research, in order to build new frameworks for managing current and future global security challenges.
CMIST administers the Carnegie Mellon University Washington Semester Program (CMU/WSP), which provides undergraduate students from any CMU department the opportunity to live, intern, and study in the nation's capital. CMIST is also in the process of expanding the teaching program to include a new Master's degree that includes coursework and internship experiences for graduate students in Washington, DC. During the day, students gain real-world experience with an internship. At night, they take classes with policy-active, experienced Carnegie Mellon faculty, who help students gain the knowledge, experience, and skills to chart exciting careers and make a difference. CMIST is currently in the process of developing executive education opportunities out of the Washington Center.
The Washington Project Administrator's core responsibilities include:
The Project Administrator should have strong organizational and planning skills, oral and written communication skills, time management skills, and prior administrative support experience. This position will regularly handle sensitive information and requires maintaining strict confidentiality and discretion. This person should have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. The Project Administrator is required to exercise independent judgment and decision-making in order to execute seamless and effective programming and office management.
