Job Description

The Lead Data Scientist should have a demonstrated passion for data science and data-driven analytics to implement the National Cardiovascular Data Registry's (NCDR) data science strategy. The role will be responsible for contributing to the advancement of NCDR data analytics through the application of novel approaches using data science tools and techniques. The role will coach junior data science team members and collaborate across groups to achieve NCDR goals.

This position is based in Washington, DC where we have a hybrid work environment (roughly 40% of the time in the office).

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Build and deploy data science products and share analytic insights using machine learning, statistical modelling, and NLP techniques for NCDR internal and external stakeholders.
  2. Coach and mentor the junior data scientist(s).
  3. Leverage Exploratory Data Analysis to analyze and gain insights from clinical registry data to provide critical results, enable data-driven decisions, enhance product offerings, and reduce cost and complexity.
  4. Work collaboratively across groups (NCDR business lines, IT, ACC members and other stakeholders) to execute data science initiatives.
  5. Collaborate with the Data Quality Program to enhance data quality solutions and strategies.
  6. Adhere to the data science team documentation and coding best practices to facilitate collaboration and effective communication.
  7. Design and develop data visualization and dashboard solutions using standard tools such as Power BI.
  8. Integrate external data sources to discover relevant and informative trends. External data sources are including but not limited to clinical, claims, registry, and Patient Reported Outcomes (PRO) data.
  9. Research data science and analytic methodologies applicable to the real-world evidence (RWE) team.
  10. Understand NCDR platform architecture such as Common Data Model (CDM) and legacy (star schema).
  11. Complete all mandatory privacy and security training requirements and comply with ACC privacy and security policies.

Required Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's degree, preferably in a related field
  2. Masters with 5+ years relevant experience or Bachelors with 7+ years relevant experience
  3. Proficiency in R or Python and SQL
  4. Demonstrated experience with statistical modeling, machine learning, building and deploying machine models, and/or leveraging unstructured data.
  5. Proficiency with PowerBI or other data visualization tools (Tableau, ggplot, plotly)
  6. Ability to communicate technical concepts and implications with non-technical stakeholders.
  7. Proficient with Microsoft Office; familiarity with Microsoft Access, Visio, SharePoint software, and GitHub
  8. Willingness to travel (limited)

Desired Qualifications:

  1. Experience with data analysis for health-related organizations, including FDA, NIH, and the life science industry
  2. Proactively identify and mitigate roadblocks and troubleshoot solutions
  3. Familiarity with Agile life cycle methodology
