Job Description

Science Systems and Applications, Inc. (SSAI) has an opening for a Group Lead (GL) to manage task orders and personnel on an engineering contract at NASA GSFC. The Group Lead provides project direction to multiple tasks within a satellite hardware project area. The GL is responsible for recruiting, mentoring, personnel management, and technical, schedule, quality, and cost performance for tasks within the Group. The GL budgets, monitors, and controls aspects of Group performance to ensure that all projects and tasks are accomplished within the prescribed schedule and cost parameters of the overall contract. The GL interfaces with customers to capture project requirements, obtain feedback on performance, and may work with other Group Leads in managing Group staff and efforts. The GL oversees development of task plans specifying goals, strategy, staffing, scheduling, and allocation of available resources. The GL directly supervises task leads and works collaboratively with other Department/Group Leads to meet contract objectives. The GL reports to the Program Manager on contract matters, ensures that all deliverables are met, and is responsible for all aspects of quality control in assigned tasks. The GL participates actively in corporate initiatives including Business Development (marketing and proposal efforts), strategic planning, employee mentoring, community support activities, and corporate social functions. This role is located onsite in Greenbelt, MD. Onsite support is required, teleworking on a Hybrid basis may be available as customer/SSAI requirements allow.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in an engineering, math, or physical sciences discipline and 12 years of professional experience, including 3 years of management/leadership of space-related engineering, technological, or scientific development, and have extensive knowledge and understanding of a broad spectrum of disciplines involved in engineering and technology support; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Successful candidate will have experience in contract administration, project planning, personnel selection and management, and progress monitoring and reporting.
  • Excellent verbal and writing communication skills are required.
  • Extensive experience with Government Project Management practices and standards.
  • US Citizenship is required.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience in the NASA contracting environment, and NASA engineering programs.
  • Broad Knowledge of NASA/GSFC projects and missions.
  • Experience supporting development of proposals for NASA contracts

The employee frequently is required to talk and hear and occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
