What You Will Do:

Gannett Fleming is searching for an experienced and charasmatic Track Design Manager you will play a pivotal role in overseeing and leading the design, planning, and execution of various rail transit and heavy freight guideway projects throughout the Mid-Atlantic region. Gannett Fleming embraces a hybrid work environment.

In this capacity you will analyze projects, establish design criteria, and execute designs. You will lead or participates in large transit, intercity, and freight rail systems projects by managing the track alignment design and associated civil portions of the scope of work. You will also provide direct oversight of team dispursed across the Mid-Atlantic region. You will take an active role in the management of multi-disciplined projects and serve as the primary interface with clients. Gannett Fleming will support your engagement a local level in leadership of professional societies such as AREMA, APTA, WTS and ACEC.

Successful candidates must have knowledge and experience in track maintenance and asset management, track form systems, railroad/transit planning, and conceptual, preliminary, and detailed design of rail transit and heavy freight guideways.

Responsibilities:

  • Organize, lead, and supervise a proficient track design team engaged in urban transit, intercity transit, and heavy rail system projects.
  • Spearhead the design process for intricate track arrangements, encompassing special trackwork, maintenance and facility yards, embedded and direct fixation systems, and conventional ballasted track layouts.
  • Offer expert advice to assess the condition of track networks and formulate recommended approaches and remediation strategies.
  • Lead initiatives involving track maintenance assessment reports, track system optioneering, and corresponding remedial actions.
  • Responsible for working closely with clients for development of technically sound solutions and client satisfaction.
  • Execute project scope of work and managing the technical development of the work and maintaining the budget and schedule.
  • Obtain the permits necessary to complete the project and to provide interaction with the permitting agencies.
  • Lead meetings, both internal and client-facing, while effectively managing client expectations and deliverables.
  • Create comprehensive project specifications, concept reports, design briefs, constructability reports, and additional technical documentation.
  • Develop design calculations, optimize designs, and create analytical tools to enhance design processes.
  • Mentor and cultivate junior staff in software proficiency and analytical skillsets.
  • Develop, monitor, and refine project work plans, scopes of work, methodologies, client presentations, and project schedules.
  • Coordinate interdisciplinary rail systems integration efforts.
  • Review and evaluate shop drawing submittals to ensure alignment with project requirements.
  • Oversee the quality review process for all submittals, ensuring adherence to established standards.
Education | Experience:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited university, preferably in Civil Engineering.
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer (P.E.) MD, DC and/or VA
  • Possess a minimum of 10 years' experience in railroad engineering.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead design and maintenance tasks for medium to large-scale transit/rail-related projects.
  • Deep and profound understanding of various track systems, including embedded and direct fixation track methods.
  • Proven experience in designing and developing complex transit and freight rail systems, including alignments, rail yards, special trackwork, junctions, and facilities.
  • Adept at innovating and devising new methodologies and tools to tackle challenging client issues.
  • Capable of efficiently managing multidisciplinary teams both on-site and remotely, while effectively meeting client expectations.
  • Familiarity with the application of Local Agency Codes and Standards.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and communication skills.
  • Prior experience in mentoring and nurturing core skills in junior staff.
  • Experience with Civil3D, OpenRail, or MicroStation/AutoCAD is considered an asset.

Salary Range: $170,000 - $230,000 (USD)

Salary dependent upon experience and geographic location
