Aspire is a growing nonprofit organization of the Massachusetts General Hospital. We offer a variety of high-quality therapeutic programs and services that focus on helping children with high cognitive autism spectrum disorders and related profiles develop increased self-awareness, social competency, and stress management skills.

The Transitions Specialist is a seasonal position working at Aspire's Transitions Summer Program. The Transitions Specialist is responsible for supervising a group of 3 participants, aged 16-22, at a volunteer work site two days per week. On other weekdays, other tasks of the role include: co-facilitating program activities; implementing Aspire program curriculum; implementing interventions, supports, and strategies for program participants; leading mid-summer conferences and communicating with families; maintaining accurate timekeeping and record keeping; and complying with program policies and procedures. Transitions Specialists will be supported by the Transitions Assistant Program Manager and Transitions Program Manager.

Program activities include: volunteer site work, job preparation, recreation and team building activities, social groups, mind/body groups, self-awareness groups, exercise, and lunch outings. The Transitions Specialist will help support curriculum focused blocks (i.e., connections, self-awareness, mind/body and job prep groups) with opportunities to plan specific program activities. This is a 40 hour per week paid position (located in Lexington and at an additional job-site) for 6 program weeks that includes 40 hours of mandatory and paid training prior to the start of the program, along with mid-summer parent conferences. Pre-program and ongoing training and supervision is provided by experienced clinical staff.

Qualifications

* Enrolled in, or graduate of, a graduate program in: psychology, social work, occupational therapy, speech and language pathology, and other mental health related fields.

* Prior experience working with adolescents with autism spectrum disorders strongly preferred. Strong interpersonal and team-building skills.

* Openness to receiving feedback on interactional skills with families, participants, and staff.

* Desire and ability to work in outdoor settings

* Basic computer skills. MS Word required; knowledge of Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook helpful.

* Good basic writing skills.

* Ability to work independently and be flexible.

* Excellent organizational skills.

* Strong attention to detail.

* Problem-solving skills.
