Job Description

Versar is seeking a self-motivated Junior level Geologist to support our Overland Park, Kansas location. This position is organized under Versar's Environment & Sustainable Infrastructure Group/National Remediation Program, primarily supporting EPA Environmental Programs. This is a hybrid role, working primarily remote and will require out-of-town, overnight travel of several consecutive days several times a year.

Primary duties and day-to-day responsibilities include the following:

  • Develop site characterization planning documents related to site investigations.
  • Prepare technical reports-of-findings for delivery to clients, perform quality control review, and maintain deliverable quality to meet internal and client requirements.
  • Conduct onsite field investigations including directing well installations, collecting soil and groundwater samples, sample management and participating in other site characterization and hazardous waste management activities.
  • Coordinate with technology providers and services, products, vendors, subcontractors, lab scale/bench scale testing firms, and other subcontractors, consultants, and team partners to create robust teams for complex problems.
  • Assisting the Project Manager on large, multi-site projects.
  • Independently manage tasks and work with Project Managers on a variety of environmental projects for both proposed sites and existing sites, including development of technical remediation approach, cost estimation, schedule development, identification of critical milestones, planning, reporting, and formal project management.
  • Perform background research, gather information, and interpret laboratory and field data to support technical activities. Evaluate data reports and draw comparison of results with similar analysis.
  • Writing scopes of work and developing cost estimates and schedules associated with remediation projects for Opportunities with the EPA, USACE, National Guard Bureau, Navy, and other federal sector customers.
  • Attend site visits, observe, and evaluate client programs and activities.
  • Use technically oriented software.

Position Requirements

  • B.S. in Geology or other earth science related field.
  • Professional Geologist certification desirable, not required but expected within 2 years of hire.
  • Minimum 3 years' experience specific to geologic and hydrogeologic characterization of hazardous material sites, preferably in EPA Region 7.
  • The position will require occasional out-of-town, overnight travel of several consecutive days several times a year.
  • U.S. Citizenship or ability to obtain security clearance for work on DoD installations is required.
