Who we are looking for:

ASCO is seeking an enthusiastic candidate interested in gaining hands-on experience in full board and governance meeting cycles. This internship provides a unique opportunity to learn and apply governance best practices in a dynamic work environment and contribute to the success of ASCO's Board of Directors, Election, and Special Awards Programs.

Internship activities include:

Nonprofit Governance

  • Assist with preparing for meeting of the Board of Directors, Executive Committee, and other Board Committees

  • Attend meetings and provide support to Governance team members

ASCO Election

  • Provide support in all active leading up to the summer Nominating Committee meetings which includes pre-screening nominees, preparing meeting materials, preparing the voting site, coordinating travel logistics with committee members, and post meeting follow-ups

  • Attend the Nominating Committee meetings, take notes, and perform other support tasks

Special Awards Program

  • Assist in the creation of the 2025 program timeline

  • Coordinate with departments across ASCO to ensure deliverables and due dates adhere to organizational expectations

  • Assist with determining eligibility of special award nominees

  • Prepare materials for the review and selection of the 2025 ASCO special award recipients

Required qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate BA/BS degree program, or graduate program, or recently graduated from a 4-year degree program. Candidates must be at least a junior or entering their junior year of college at the start of the internship.

  • Experience using Microsoft Office tools, SurveyMonkey, Smartsheet, Adobe Acrobat, and Zoom

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

  • Professionalism

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment with flexibility to adapt to changing needs

  • Solid organizational and time management skills with the ability to meet established deadlines, and impeccable attention to detail

  • Excellent customer service skills and professionalism

  • Willingness to enhance skills

  • Prior experience with coordinating meetings logistics and scheduling is a plus

  • Prior experience working with high-level executives (i.e., CEOs, Board members) is a plus

Duration:10weeksduring thesummer - June 10, 2024, to August 16, 2024. This internship is37.5hours per week.

Compensation:Thissummerinternship position is paid. Additionally, ASCO will provide parking or a metro subsidy to the successful candidate.

Location:This internship is based in Alexandria, VA and will require working onsite. Candidates should reside in the D.C. metro area or be able to relocate at their own expense. If you are not able to work at ASCO Headquarters, please do not apply.
