This Opportunity:

The Portfolio Lead, Climate and Nature will drive the strategic growth and business delivery of the Climate and Nature portfolio, oversee the execution of strategy by managing and mentoring the portfolio team, as well as closely interact with the other portfolios under the Inclusive Growth and Nature umbrella.

In addition to closely partnering with the other portfolios as well as the global Natural Capital Business (which focuses on commercial clients), the Portfolio Lead will focus particularly on expanding our business with USAID, developing project opportunities related to climate mitigation and adaptation, protecting and restoring landscapes and natural capital, and climate finance.

Location and Compensation:

The position is based in Palladium's Washington D.C. office.

For our prospective employees in the United States, please note that the full-time equivalent annual base salary for this position is expected to range from $116,000 to $174,000, and successful candidates may also be eligible for additional, variable incentive compensation dependent on the role. For part-time employees, the salary will be prorated based on the actual number of hours worked.

Please be advised that a final salary offer will be based on various factors, including but not limited to your qualifications, education, experience, skills, seniority, performance, and Palladium's business or organizational needs.

Reporting and Supervision:

  • The Portfolio Lead, Climate and Nature will report to the Partner, Inclusive Growth and Nature
  • This position will supervise a sizeable team

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead business and proposal development, including designing of key technical approaches and developing partnering strategies
  • Responsible for positioning Palladium with clients with the intention of identifying contract opportunities and improving the prospects for successful capture
  • Leading selective marketing and business development activities which raise the profile of Palladium in target markets
  • Coordinate closely with other Palladium portfolios and business groups with important synergies in areas such as climate finance, sustainable agriculture, nature based solutions, and climate resilient livelihoods
  • Preparing and disseminating thought leadership content through developed relationships and cross-collaboration within the ARBP, as well as the EMEA and APAC Partnerships
  • Seeking opportunities to form trusted relations with clients through networking, speaking at events, conducting smaller, strategic assignments or providing occasional pro-bono support
  • Provide strong guidance to the staff within the portfolio in order develop effective team dynamics around learning, best practices and capacity development

Key Competencies:

  • Track record in building and managing an international development business, including success with USG clients and other international donors and commercial partners
  • Proven successes in identifying, initiating, and nurturing new or ongoing business opportunities
  • Demonstrated experience in structuring and mobilizing finance to support the implementation of nature/climate solutions at scale
  • Knowledge and understanding of carbon markets and measurement, climate protocols and their implications, climate mitigation and adaptation strategies, science based targets, and/or nature based solutions
  • Proven experience in forging successful alliances with diverse partners in structuring, financing and implementing climate and nature solutions
  • Prior experience directly supervising sizable teams bringing an eye for succession planning and capacity development
  • Sound business development and internal customer/client relationship management skills
  • Ability to provide timely and direct feedback to direct reports and other departmental staff with appropriate diplomacy
  • Deep understanding of international development procurement processes with the ability to be conversant within the given technical areas of focus for Palladium
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to influence a wide variety of stakeholders with differing levels of commercial acumen
  • Demonstrated ability to drive a high performing culture, while simultaneously creating an inclusive and enabling work environment with a strong focus on diversity and inclusion
  • The ability to see the bigger picture and affect business drivers through decisions and actions that increases your own ability to contribute to the long-term profitability and growth of the company
  • The ability to see how your accountabilities fit into Palladium group, the impact of your individual actions on the bottom line and how the effective management of resources will drive high performance and efficiency
  • Strong levels of resilience accompanied by the capability to resolve conflict and achieve consensus amongst a wide variety of competing views
