Overview

The Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response (ASPR) is a public health preparedness and emergency response organization in the Office of the Secretary at the United States Department of Health and Human Services. ASPR was created under the Pandemic and All Hazards Preparedness Act in the wake of Hurricane Katrina to lead the nation in preventing, preparing for, and responding to the adverse health effects of public health emergencies and disasters.

The Response Communication Team (RCT) provides reliable, secure, business-integrated technology solutions that align, support, and enable success for ASPR's strategic goals and mission requirements. RCT provides a full spectrum of support, maintaining IT and communications caches containing computers, mobile devices, HF/VHF/UHF radios, satellite internet terminals, and other assets. Working in partnership with the HHS Office of the CIO, RCT also provides end-to-end deskside support to Response staff and a variety of technical and professional services including, phone application, data retention, information security, response infrastructure support, and systems administration.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support to the Response Communications Team (RCT) help desk
  • Utilize the ASPR Logistics Resource Management System (ALRMS), inventory management system to track and maintain the RCT IT/Communications assets
  • Perform property custodian duties for all RCT equipment at the MSCs and facilities assuming responsibility for the safekeeping, maintenance, and accountability of the equipment
  • Provide support and updates for laptops that are used for response to disasters or public health emergencies including performing software updates and patching as required.
  • Ensure that laptops are functioning optimally and address any technical issues that may arise. Update Response laptop images on a weekly basis to ensure the laptops reflect the most recent configurations and software updates
  • Assist in rekeying Response Communications radios

  • Conducts Web administration support
  • Assists with help desk support
  • Supports Systems/Network Administration
  • Assists with user support
  • Provides 508 compliance support for PHE.gov/ASPR sites & related organizational efforts
  • Responsible for supporting and coordinating IT and related services and solutions (systems)
  • Provides support for ASPR/OEM's technology requirements
  • As needed advises ASPR/OEM regarding issues concerning the provision of IT support
  • Provides technical advice, guidance and recommendations to management and other team members on day to day IT issues on existing or new IT systems that encompass one or more areas of IT, including security, applications, LAN/WAN, customer support, etc., and other related processes used to improve performance, availability, reliability, and enhance efficiencies.
  • Applies IT principals to solve problems and make recommendations that support ASPR/OEM IT policies or programs

Qualifications

Required Education

  • Bachelor's degree in relevant field

Required Experience

  • 2-4 years experience in IT field
