Acupuncturist

Job Summary

This position will support the NIH Occupational Medical Service located in Bethesda, Maryland. The Acupuncturist will provide confidential medical services to employees for a variety of medical and counseling services. OMS works under the Department of Health and Safety within NIH and collaborates with safety professionals and NIH researchers.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

The Acupuncturist performs duties as described below in accordance with OMS policies and procedures:

Clinical Responsibilities:

  • Follows standard quality, safety, environmental and infection control policies and procedures and adheres to local, state and federal laws, regulations and statutes.
  • Analyzes physical findings and medical histories to make diagnoses according to Asian medicine traditions. Maintains detailed and complete records of healthcare plans and prognoses.
  • Identifies the correct anatomical and proportional point locations based on patients’ anatomy.
  • Evaluates treatment outcomes and recommends new or altered treatments to promote, restore, or maintain health.

Job Requirements

Education and/or Experience

  • Certification: Bi-Annual certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support for Healthcare Providers
  • Graduation from a course of training of at least 1,800 hours, including 300 clinical hours, that is approved by a U.S. State Higher Education Commission; accredited by the National Accreditation Commission for Schools and Colleges of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NAC); or found by the Board to be equivalent to a course approved by the NAC.
  • Achievement of a passing score on an examination that is given by the NAC or determined by the Board to be equivalent to that exam.
  • One year of postgraduate clinical experience as an acupuncturist.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Must adhere to HIPAA, Privacy Act guidelines and be able to perform work in a confidential manner.
  • Self-motivated with minimal oversight.
  • Computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Must have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986.
